Ruth B. Travis Canisteo Ruth B. Travis, 92, formerly of Greenwood St., passed away Sunday (January 3, 2016) at her daughter’s home in Windsor. Born in Meadville, PA, January 20, 1923, the daughter of Dale and Hazel Johnson Battles, she had resided in the Canisteo area since 1948. Ruth was a graduate of the Hornell High School Class of 1939 and worked at the Hornell Tribune as a Teletype Operator. After the Tribune she worked as a parts clerk for the Erie Stores Department and then as personal secretary to the superintendent of the Maintenance of Way Department also at the Erie Railroad. Ruth was a member of the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church where she was an organist and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed sewing especially making clothes and crafts, and taught piano for 20 years. She was predeceased by her husband Vernon Travis in 2014, along with her parents Dale and Hazel Battles. She is survived by a sister, Joan Haslar of Reno, NV; seven children; Sara Travis of Canisteo, Martha (Stephen) Thompson of Lititz PA, Susan (LeWayne) Colwell of Windsor, Anita (Stephen) Colwell of Windsor, John (Donna) Travis of Pulaski VA, James (Lori) Travis of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, and Deborah Travis of Howard, daughter-in-law, Karen Travis of Bath, 16 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild. Family and friends are invited to attend services at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church on Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2016) at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
