Thelma B. Palmiter Alfred Station Thelma B. Palmiter, 91, of State Route 244, passed away peacefully Friday (January 22, 2016) at her home in Alfred Station, with her family at her side. Born in Alfred Station, NY, on March 25, 1924, the daughter of Arthur E. and M. Gretchen (Clare) Burdick, she was a lifelong area resident, except for 2 years living in Wakefield, Virginia. Thelma graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, with her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. After her kids were grown, she worked for National Fuel (formerly Iroquois Gas) in Hornell, educating people how to use Natural Gas safely and properly. A favorite part of the job was traveling to schools, educating students. She was a member of the Union University Church, the Amandine Club in Alfred, and was one of the original founders, along with her husband Lyle, of the Baker’s Bridge Historical Association. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her husband Lyle W. Palmiter in 2013, whom she married in 1946. She was also predeceased by a brother Douglas Burdick, 2 sisters Norma Burdick and Joan Goff, and her sister-in-law Jackie Burdick. She is survived by a son Terry (Lyn Muxworthy) Palmiter of Alfred Station, a daughter Pamela (Charles) Thomas of Independence, MO, her 2 grandchildren Seth Thomas and Clare Thomas, her brother Charles Burdick of Alfred Station, a sister-in-law Mary Jane Burdick of Alfred Station, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will be present 3-5pm Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Bender – Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5:00 PM, with Rev.
