E. Louise Woodruff Hornell E. Louise Woodruff, 93, formerly of West Main Street in Canisteo, passed away suddenly Saturday (March 19, 2016) at Updykes Willow Ridge Assisted Living Facility where she had resided the past 5 years. Born in Alfred Station, July 20, 1922, the daughter of Harry D. and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Pettibone) Austin, she had spent her early life in Alfred Station and resided in Canisteo from 1990 until 2011. She was a graduate of the former Alfred High School. Louise had been employed as a seamstress at the Newell Shirt Company in Medina, for the Kraft Cheese Company in Alfred Station, and the Batavia Central School District. During WW II, she served as a civilian plane spotter and calibrated instrument gauges for combat aircraft at the Smith Defense Plant. She was a life long member of the Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Bakers Bridge Historical Society in Alfred Station, The Almond Senior Citizens, and the former Canisteo Chapter #210, Order of Eastern Star in Canisteo. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband , Willis Burr Woodruff on October 1, 2004 to whom she was married 58 years , her sister, Ethelyn Aldrich and her brother, Leighton Austin. She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Woodruff of Oakfield; three sons, Paul (Mary) Woodruff of Medina, David (Carol) Woodruff of Hemlock and Roger (Sharon) Woodruff of Alfred Station; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A private family funeral service was held today with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Chroniger officiating. Graveside services followed at Alfred Rural Cemetery.
