Rose M. Marino – (103) – formerly of 348 Cleveland Ave., North Hornell, died Wednesday (October 31, 2012) at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Horseheads, following a brief illness.
Born in Sharon, Pa., on July 30th, 1909, she was the daughter of Michael & Louise (Bello) Milanese. She has resided in the Hornell area for most of her life.
Rose had been employed for several years at the former Huegets Textile Company in Hornell and for 18 years, she worked as a seamstress at the former Hickey Freeman’s in Hornell.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann’s Church. Rose had also been a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Ladies of Columbus and a life member of the Italian – American Woman’s Club (Sons of Italy). She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting.Rose was married to Anthony Marino who died in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou Townsend who died in 1971; her son, Francis “Frip” Marino who died in 2011; her son-in-law, H. Duane Waufle who died in 1996; 3 sisters, Florence Milanese, Margaret Curcio and Antoinette Candiello; and her brother, Joseph Milanese.
Surviving are; 1 daughter, Carol Waufle of Elmira; her daughter-in-law, Edna Marino of Hornell; seven grandchildren, Mike (Martha) Marino of Hornell, Fran Marino of Hornell, Chuck (Colleen) Marino of Temecula, CA, Jim (Eileen) Marino of Hornell, Mike (Kathy) Waufle of St. Charles, MO, David Waufle of Bagdad, AZ and Joanne Peer of Elmira; 15 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 1 nephew, James (Jill) Curcio of Arizona.
Rose’s family would like to thank all of the staff & care-givers at both Bethany Assisted Living Facility and Bethany Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful care given to Rose over the past few years. Their kindness and professionalism will always be remembered!
The family of Rose M. Marino will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday at St. Ann’s Church with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Rose’s family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to either St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or to Care First (formerly Southern Tier Hospice),11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
