Mavis O. Hija Wellsville Mavis O. Hija, 86, a resident of Highland Healtcare Center in Wellsville, a former resident of Angelica, passed away peacefully Thursday (June 12, 2014). Born in Friendship, June 12, 1928, the daughter of DeForest and Martha (Scott) Crandall, she was a lifelong area resident, returning from Michigan in 1961.She was a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church. Mavis enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, reading, Ice Hockey, and the New York Yankees. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Hija in 1967, her daughter Alice Hija Horton in 1968, as well as her 3 brothers Harold, Robert, and Clayton Crandall, and 2 sisters Elizabeth Crandall Bentley, and Mary Decker. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Jerry) Phelps of Tioga, PA, 2 sons Thomas Hija of Osceola, PA, and Raymond Hija of Campbell, 2 grandchildren of which she raised Donita Cryer of LA, and Stephen Horton of NC, her sister Laura (Walter) Fuhrer of Elkland, PA, her sister in law Delores Crandall of Angelica, 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family will be present Monday, June 16, 2014, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Avenue Angelica, from 12-1pm, where funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Tim Middleton officiating. Burial will be in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery.
