Tedde L. Swarthout Belmont – Tedde L. Swarthout, reluctantly left the hand of her husband on Sept. 29th at home after a long disability and recently being diagnosed with Leukemia . She was born in Buffalo on Oct. 18, 1949 the daughter of the late Joseph James and Delores Yvonne (Mills) Gielow, Sr. She received her education in Buffalo area schools and was a graduate of Riverside High School in Buffalo, Bryant and Stratton Business School, as a Medical Assistant and Alfred State College School of Nursing in Alfred. She was the beloved wife of Randy L. Swarthout, to whom she was married on June 29, 1996, in a Civil War themed wedding in the United Methodist Church in Belmont. She worked as a Phlebotomist in southern California and later was the Administrator of a large medical clinic for a number of years before returning to New York. She was a waitress at the former Maria’s Restaurant in Angelica and a mixologist at the former Belmont Hotel while attending college to become a registered nurse. Tedde was employed as a Registered Nurse at Cuba Memorial Hospital and for a short time at the Wellsville Manor in Wellsville, the Health Clinic at Alfred University and also worked as a Hospice Nurse, before finally having to stop work due to becoming disabled from many years of medical complications. She was a past member of the 38th Georgia Company F Civil War Reenacting Group in Medina portraying life of a civilian and demonstrated the use of herbal and holistic medicines along with educating people on foods and cooking of the period. While she was able to reenact she made authentic period clothing as well. She was a previous member of 36th Virginia, Co. B Civil War Reenacting Group in Buffalo, serving as the groups secretary for several years. She was a past member of the Herbert W. DeLong Post 808 Ladies Auxiliary; the Belmont Fire Department Auxiliary; member of Amity Rescue Squad; the M. Eva Williams Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; a disaster volunteer with the American Red Cross; and volunteer with the Allegany County SPCA. In the late 80’s she taught clogging and country dance classes. Tedde enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, tatting, crafting, cooking, baking, canning and soap making. She made her Brides Maids and flower girl dresses along with the suits for the ring-bearers. She also made the wedding dress for her daughter-in-law. She and Randy both became Certified Master Food Preservers through Cornell Cooperative Extension. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Kyle G. (Susan A.) Mangiero of Georgia, Scott M. Mangiero of Wellsville; a daughter, Sarah R. Mangiero of Staten Island; a sister Becky J. Gielow of Arizona; two brothers, Tim C. (Connie Fanton) of Wellsville and Joe J. Gielow, Jr. of Tonawanda; a half-brother, Mark T. Gielow of Oregon; her step-mother Diane (Richard) Coster of Florida; one granddaughter, Isabelle Mangiero; a grandson due in January; an Aunt and Uncle, a niece, nephew and cousins; and her dogs, Ko-Ko, Nilla and Paco; Beside her parents she was predeceased by a brother Kirk Douglas Gielow on Sept. 27, 2011 Following her wishes there will be no visitation. Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.
