Eunice Reniff Ellis Hornell Eunice Reniff Ellis, 91,of Hungry Hollow Rd. passed away Monday (January 5, 2014) at St. James Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. She was born February 25, 1923 in Birdsall the daughter of the late Frank and Idell (Hollenbeck) Reniff. Eunice attended Angelica Central School, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alfred University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and did graduate work at Middlebury College in Vermont. She later received her Masters Degree in Education from SUNY Geneseo. In the 1940’s she taught French at Canisteo Central School and after her children were grown she taught at Savona, Bradford, and Avoca Central Schools. Mrs. Ellis was active as a 4-H leader with the Green and White Sisters Club and as a 4-H dog obedience leader. She was also a Literacy Volunteer. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, gardening, and spending time at her winter home in FL. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, son-in-law, Kenneth Taggart and five siblings, Nettie Kemp, Francis Reniff, Kathryn Sturdevant, Matilda Comstock, and Neil Reniff. Eunice married the late Robert Monroe Ellis of Hornell on June 30, 1945. The couple had four children, Bonnie Taggart of Hammondsport, Robert (Gail) Ellis of Cohocton, Norman (Connie) Ellis of Hornell, and Holly (James) Gleason of Bath. Mrs. Ellis is also survived by grandchildren William, Kevin, and Megan Taggart, Brady and Jay Gleason, Griffin, Audrey, and Benjamin Ellis, and Julie and Laura Ellis, as well as two great grandchildren, Samantha and Kyle Taggart, several nieces nephews. The family will be present to receive friends from 11AM-12PM on Saturday (Jan. 10, 2014) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell, NY 14843. Funeral services will follow calling hours at the funeral home at 12PM, the Rev. Eleanor Collingsworth of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Bath officiating.
