Clik here to view.Anita Iona Gettys North Cohocton Anita Iona Gettys, of North Cohocton, age 66, passed away April 17, 2015 after a brief illness. She was born January 4, 1949 in Concord, NH to Iona Tenney and Leopold Proulx. She married Paul E. Gettys II on July 26, 1975 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Washington, DC Temple on April 15, 1978. They had eight children. Over the years, she and Paul welcomed many foster children into their home. They also cared for women from Finger Lakes DDSO, in their home as part of their family, for 14 years. In the latter years of their life, they cared for both of her parents, Iona and Robert Wells. Anita loved her family very much. We have many fond memories of camping at Camp Liahona in Poughkeepsie, NY. Anita loved going fishing. One of her favorite places was Skyline Drive in Virginia where she and Paul honeymooned. Each July, the family would gather for several days to visit at the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, NY. As a couple, she and Paul volunteered their time in the Palmyra New York Temple for their church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and firmly believed in eternal families. Anita was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Kali (Joseph) Gettys, and is survived by her eternal companion, Paul, their children, Louann Oram, Paul (Lydia) Gettys III, Iona (Louis) Cannavino, Dan (Christa) Gettys, George Gettys, Rebekah (Troy) Shepherd, Joseph Gettys, and Denise (Josh) Shifflett. She and Paul have 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. We are so grateful to have her as a wife, our mother and grandmother. Anita was laid to rest on April 20, 2015. A memorial will be held in the coming weeks. She will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Until we meet again.
