George Y. Onoda Jr.

Almond

George passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2014 at the age of 75. He had resided in Almond, NY since 1993. George was born on October 5, 1938 in Suisun, California. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carole; daughter and son in law Karen and Cliff Lentz, son Steven, daughter Amy Hendrickson; grandchildren Katelyn and Claire Lentz, and Riley, Skylar and Conner Odom; sister Eleanor and brother in law Monty Newborn.

George received his M.S. in metallurgy from University of California Berkeley and his Ph.D. in ceramics engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He taught at the University of Florida Gainvesville and was a scientist at IBM Yorktown Heights before teaching at Alfred University. George will be remembered for his ballroom dancing and love of music. He enjoyed reading scientific books and mysteries. He played a good game of Scrabble. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives , and friends.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday (January 11, 2014) at 2:00pm at the Howell Hall on the Alfred University Campus, with Rev. Patricia Bancroft officiating.

A Memorial service will also be held in Sacramento, California in February.
