Clik here to view.Ernest E. Dungan Arkport Ernest E. Dungan, 91, of Sullivan St., passed away Tuesday (April 8, 2014) at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Born in Arkport, January 12, 1923, the son of Ernest and Mary Matthews Dungan Sr., he had resided all his life in Arkport. Ernie served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was a lifelong member of the Arkport Methodist Church. He retired from the Erie Railroad as an accountant and was an Elementary School Teacher for a few years at the Greenwood Central School. In later life Ernie worked at the CY’s Shurfine in Arkport and was a member of the Arkport American Legion, Arkport Exchange Club, Arkport Historical Society, the Arkport Senior Citizens and was the caretaker of the Arkport Cemetery for many years. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, caning chairs, puzzles and making homemade ornaments for his grandchildren. In addition to his parents Ernie was predeceased by his wife Onnolee Sanford Dungan, two brothers, Bruce and Matthew Dungan, one sister, Minnie Oliver. He is survived by his children, Lucinda (James) Loomis of Rushville, Ruthie (Tom) Newell of Hornell, Kevin (Bonnie) Dungan of Arkport, Mary (William) Calnan of Baldwinsville, ten grandchildren, Jessica Newell, Carrie (Bryan) Bricco, Elizabeth (Alayna Loiselle) Loomis, Benjamin Loomis, Cassandra (Kyle) Baker, Sarah Dungan, Jason (Karla) Dungan and Samuel Dungan, Matthew and Shawn Calnan, four great grandchildren, Bryton and Jackson Dungan, Macy Mitchell and Alexandra Loomis, several nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday (April 12, 2014) from 4Pm until 7Pm , at the Bender – Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at the Arkport Methodist Church, West Ave Arkport NY 14807, Rev. Pam Carey officiating. Burial will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport .
