John F. Trentanelli

John F. Trentanelli – 83 – of 7 Mill St., Hornell, died Thursday afternoon (July 3, 2014) at his home, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on February 14, 1931 and was the son of Salvatore & Rose (Capparino) Trentanelli.

John was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1949).  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1952-1953 in Korea.

He was employed for over 35 years as a clerk for the former Erie Railroad, Erie Lackawanna Railroad and Conrail, retiring in 1991.

John was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church where he served as an usher.  Most recently he was a member of St. Ann’s Church.  He was a member of the Carducci Lodge (Sons of Italy), Hornell American Legion, Hornell Knights of Columbus, Hornell Alumni Association, and the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration of St. Ann’s. 

John was “family-man” in every sense of the word.  He had a deep love for his wife, children, grandchildren, brother & sisters.  He enjoyed hunting and gardening, but his favorite times were simply being with the ones that he loved!

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Trentanelli and Josephine Schieder and his brother, Ignatius “George” Trentanelli.

He was married on July 6, 1957 (57 years ago today) in St. Ann’s Church to the former Ann Smith who survives.  Also surviving are 2 sons, Stephen (Patricia) Trentanelli of Andover, NJ and Salvatore (Karen) Trentanelli of Corning; his sister, RoseAnn (Frank) Rizzuto of Arkport; his brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Schieder of Hornell; his grandchildren, Ann Marie (Dennis) Weaver, Stephen Trentanelli, Anthony Trentanelli, Ignatius Trentanelli, Nicholas Trentanelli and John Trentanelli; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family of John F. Trentanelli will receive friends on Sunday (today) from 3:00 PM  –  6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Ann’s Church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors.

John’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to Care First Hospice (formerly Southern Tier Hospice), 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY  14830.  Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home or click here to print a form.

In recognition of John’s service to his country, the American Flag at the Dagon Funeral Home will be flown at half-staff.
