Norma Ralyea

Norma J. Ralyea, 78, of 4004 Karr Valley Road, Town of West Almond, passed away April 3, 2015 in the Hart Comfort House of Wellsville after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born on July 29, 1936 in Batavia New York, she was a daughter of Walter W. and Gertrude H. Courtney Whyman. Norma graduated Batavia Senior High School in 1953, and Rochester Institute of Technology with an AAS degree in Chemical Technology. On October 1, 1955 in St. James Episcopal Church, Batavia she married the love of her life, Raymond L. Ralyea, who predeceased her in November 1986. Norma loved her family and treasured every moment with her children and grand/great grandchildren. She was a kind and considerate woman with a wonderful sense of humor and was one of the nicest people you might have the pleasure to know. Norma worked during her college years at Kodak in Rochester, for many years part-time at Harris Grocery in Angelica, and was also employed by Motorola Corporation in Arcade, NY. She also worked for a short time at the Angelica Spring Factory. After the death of her husband, she worked for a short time at the Angelica Spring Factory and for several years in the Allegany County Department of Social Services , retiring in December 2000. Norma was very dedicated to her faith and loved her St. Paul’s Episcopal family. She loved gardening, quilting, birdwatching and crossword puzzles. For many years, Norma was known for her beautiful crocheted doilies and baby afghans and sweaters. She also was an excellent seamstress, sewing clothing for her family for many years and creating beautiful quilts. Norma was predeceased by her parents, her husband, two brothers (Thomas and Robert) and a sister, (Joan). She is survived by: 1 daughter Jody (Bill Conniff) of Belmont, 2 sons Ken of Angelica Greg (Susan) of West Almond 1 granddaughter Janelle (Joseph) Young of Angelica 3 great-grandsons Noah, Evan, and Cooper of Angelica 5 sisters Flossie Balicki of Arizona Susan Gerhardt (Bob) of California Jeanne Whyman of North Carolina Diane Whyman of Arizona Donna Whyman of Batavia NY 3 brothers William Whyman (Karin) of California Michael Whyman (Vickie) of Batavia NY Peter Whyman (Diane) of Batavia NY She also is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and many close friends.
