Gerald A. Torrence Almond Gerald A. Torrence, 80, of McHenry Valley Rd., passed away Sunday (June 1, 2014) Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. Born in Hornell, January 18, 1934, the son of Fay and Illa Allen Torrence, he had resided in Almond since 1960. During Gerald’s formative years he lived on Keuka Lake helping his family run a boat livery service. He was one of the first patients in the area to undergo open heart surgery in 1963. Gerald was a partner and helped operate the Torrence & Son Hardware in Almond until its closing in 1964 and also began his 30 year career as the Maintenance Supervisor for the College of Ceramics at Alfred University. One of his favorite hobbies was to collect and restore outboard motors. In addition to his parents Gerald was predeceased by one brother, Richard Torrence. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Williams Torrence to whom he was married for 54 years, one son, Bruce (Laurie) Torrence of Greece, one daughter, Brenda (Martin) Naumilket of Medina OH, one brother, Darwin (Barbara) Torrence of Fremont, six grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob, Natalie, Ella, Ava, and Alexander, nieces and nephews.
